Problems & pests

Why are my plant's leaves turning yellow?

Short answer

Usually it is a nitrogen shortage, overwatering, or a pH problem. Where the yellowing starts tells you a lot.

Lower leaves fading first is often nitrogen (or normal ageing late in flower, which is fine). Yellow with drooping, heavy pots points to too much water. New growth turning pale usually means a pH-related lockout or an iron or sulphur issue, not a lack of feed. Many people respond by adding more nutrients, which makes lockout worse.

Check runoff pH first with a pH/EC meter, then look at how you water and what you feed (nutrients).
