Over a full cycle, old and dead root material builds up in every substrate. Want to see what an enzyme product does for your roots before buying a bigger bottle? This 100 ml trial size of Matrix EnZym, from the Matrix MTX range by Fenix MTX (Germany), lets you test it in one small tent. It is an enzyme mixture that breaks that dead material down.
How it works
The enzymes convert cellulose and other polysaccharides from dead roots into water-soluble monosaccharides, simple sugars that flush out with the irrigation water. What's left is a cleaner root zone. That's especially welcome in inert substrates such as rockwool and coco, where nothing else breaks down old roots for you.
Testing it properly
Dose according to the Matrix MTX feeding schedule and add it to your nutrient solution or substrate throughout the cycle, not just once. For a fair test, give it a full run and look at the roots at harvest or when you transplant. With small volumes a syringe is the easiest way to dose precisely. Shake the bottle first, and check EC and pH after mixing.
