Automatic temperature control for EC fans
A well-tuned extraction system is the foundation of a stable climate in the grow room. However, if the fan runs at full power all the time, the room often cools down more than necessary, which leads to unnecessary temperature swings, especially in the colder months. The Platinum EC Temperature & Speed Controller was developed to solve exactly this problem: it continuously measures the temperature in the grow room and automatically adjusts the speed of the connected EC fan, instead of letting the fan run constantly at a fixed setting. Because the controller is designed specifically for EC fans (electronically commutated fans), the speed can be finely adjusted over a very wide range without any significant loss of energy efficiency, as would happen with simple dimmers for AC fans. This allows more precise temperature control: when the room temperature rises, the controller automatically increases fan output to remove more warm air. When the temperature falls again, the speed is reduced accordingly. This benefits both the plants, which thrive in more stable climate conditions, and the fan itself, as constant full-load operation is avoided. Use: the controller is plug and play. It connects to the control input of the EC fan via the supplied cable with a 3.5 mm jack and a 4-pin connector and works with a PWM signal, so no external power supply is needed. The supplied temperature sensor (4 m cable) is placed in the grow room, ideally at plant height and not right next to light or heat sources, to avoid false readings. You set the desired temperature, and the maximum fan speed is configurable. It is suitable for both the vegetative and flowering stages, as a stable temperature matters in both. The controller works with any growing medium, as it only regulates the room climate via fan control.
