Are grow tent kits worth it, or should I buy everything separately?

Short answer

For a first grow, a kit is usually worth it. The parts match, so you don't end up with a fan too small for the filter or a lamp that doesn't cover the tent.

Buying separately makes sense when you already own a lamp or fan, or you want a specific brand of each. You can also upgrade one part later without replacing a whole kit. The catch is that you have to size everything yourself: fan against filter, lamp against floor area, ducting diameter against both.

  • Kit: matched parts, one order, nothing to calculate.
  • Separate: your choice of each part, better if you own some already.
