Lighting

How many lumens does a grow room need per square metre?

Short answer

None, really. Lumens measure what your eye sees. Plants use PPFD, in µmol/m²/s, so compare lamps on that.

Typical targets without extra CO2: around 100-300 PPFD for seedlings and cuttings, 300-600 in veg and 600-1000 in flower. Going higher only pays off if temperature, nutrition and CO2 can keep up. Plenty of growers get good results well below the top of those ranges, and too much light is a common mistake.

Look for lamps that publish a PPFD map at set hanging heights. You'll find them under full-spectrum LED lights.
