How many watts of LED do I need per square metre?

Short answer

For flowering, plan on roughly 250-400 W of real power draw per m². Check what the lamp actually pulls from the wall, not the 'equivalent' HPS number on the box.

The spread is wide because efficiency varies. A lamp that makes 2.8 µmol per joule needs fewer watts for the same light than one at 2.0. Veg needs less light than flower, so a dimmable lamp lets you start low and turn it up. Do the sum on floor area, not tent size, and check the lamp's PPFD map to be sure the edges get enough.

Some starting points: the LEDMAXECO 300 W fits an 80x80 to 90x90 cm flowering area, and the Platinum Super King 720 W suits a 150x150 cm tent. More in LED grow lights.
